Engaging with Educators
COSEE Florida has developed a novel ocean-science based curriculum and research internship program called the Ocean Science Concentration for Pre-Service Educators. This program is designed to improve the training and content knowledge of undergraduate students pursuing a BS degree in science education.
2011 REPT interns and mentor scientist |
Ocean Science Concentration for Pre-Service Educators: Ocean scientists can participate in this program as invited guest lecturers, lesson plan science content reviewers, and summer research mentors through COSEE Florida's Research Experience for Pre-Service Teachers (REPT). To learn more about the Ocean Science Concentration for Pre-Service Educators, contact Brenda Cetrulo.
 2011 WAH educator workshop |
Educator Workshops: For both current and future educators, COSEE Florida sponsors Water As Habitat (WAH) educator workshops. These workshops highlight current ocean research and promote regional collaborations between scientists and educators that enhance ocean science education and ocean literacy. To learn more about how scientists can participate in WAH events, contact Laura Diederick.
FLASH Films: COSEE Florida is working with ocean scientists throughout the Sunshine State to create short video presentations featuring their research. The videos are called FLorida Aquatic Science Heroes (FLASH), because their research is bettering our understanding of the world we live in. They are designed to serve as resources for middle and high school instruction. If you are an ocean scientist interested in producing your own FLASH, contact Giancarlo Cetrulo.
