10.04.2012 - The NOAA Hollings Scholarship Program and Undergraduate Scholarship Programs are accepting applications. The programs provide support for students in the junior and senior year and paid summer internships at NOAA facilities.  MORE >>
04.13.2012 - On April 12, COSEE Florida hosted a Water as Habitat community program in partnership with Changing Seas, a public television program produced by WPBT2 in Miami, Florida.  MORE >>
02.26.2012 - COSEE Florida continues to help ocean scientists improve their presentation skills. Speakers at the annual Marine Biology Symposium in St. Augustine, Florida were given the opportunity to have their presentations videotaped and evaluated using the Presentation Skills Protocol- a tool for assessing the quality of scientific presentations that was co-developed by COSEE Florida Principal Investigator, Dr. Rick Tankersley. In addition, COSEE sponsored an evening poster session that was opened to the public. Over 120 participants enjoyed interacting with the 20 scientists sharing their research as well as those attending to support their colleagues.

02.26.2012 - COSEE Florida will be hosting Science Cafés throughout the state. We welcome people who may or may not typically get involved with scientific discussions. Our goal is to connect local scientists with their communities in a comfortable atmosphere where everyone joins in on interesting and important ocean science topics.  MORE >>
02.26.2012 - Students enrolled in IRSC’s Bachelor of Science in Middle Grades Science Education are given the opportunity to learn first-hand about the process of scientific discovery through COSEE Florida's summer research experience.

10.06.2011 - On October 6th, COSEE Florida hosted a Water as Habitat Science Café at the Florida Museum of Natural History in Gainesville in partnership with the Museum, Florida Sea Grant, and the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences. The event, featuring Florida Sea Grant seafood specialist Dr. Steve Otwell, drew more than one hundred participants interested in learning about seafood industry changes and the potential effects on consumers, including supply, costs, health, safety and sustainability.  MORE >>
08.08.2011 - This workshop at the University of California Berkeley's Lawrence Hall of Science is designed for scientist/science educator teams that are interested in team teaching the Communicating Ocean Sciences courses (COS-K12 &/or COSIA) for undergraduate &/or graduate science students.  MORE >>
07.12.2011 - Six soon-to-be science teachers at Indian River State College received six weeks of hands-on experience, performing research at the Smithsonian Marine Station in Fort Pierce, Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute, and Ocean Research & Conservation Association. Their research experiences ran the gamut from clam aquaculture to the ecological role of cyanobacteria to analyzing cost effective water quality analysis techniques. Participants of COSEE Florida's Research Experience for Pre-service Teachers (REPT) program produced posters and short audio slideshows describing their summer research experience and what role it played in addressing common science misconceptions.  MORE >>
05.11.2011 - Dr. Rick Tankersley, senior scientist at Florida Institute of Technology, led COSEE Florida's Presentation Boot Camp on May 11th and 12th. With a pledge to NEVER GIVE A BAD PRESENTATION AGAIN, attendees learned how to identify the ingredients of good and bad presentations and how to critically evaluate and improve their own work to better their communication skills.  MORE >>
05.06.2011 - The Ocean Science Sequence Curriculum for Grades 3-5 that was developed by COSEE California at the Lawrence Hall of Science and funded by NOAA's Environmental Literacy Grant is now published.  MORE >>
